In a thriller the SSB SSB Tar Heels staged a dramatic comeback then held on to
win over the Detroit Iron Gloves by a score of 7 to 5 at the ballpark.
SSB came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning with 3 runs.
After an out was recorded, Luis Castillo opened up the rally as he drew a
walk. After another out, Alex Rodriguez came up and he drew a walk. Albert
Pujols then lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 9th of the
season). This was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed
hands 5 times.
The win was credited to Tom Gordon(2-0) who went 1 inning allowing no runs.
Mariano Rivera earned his 3rd save. Ugueth Urbina(0-2) was charged with the
loss in relief. He surrendered 3 runs and 1 hit in 2/3 of an inning.
Urbina was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get
away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One
minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I
get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'
